September 10, 2024

Client: Nationale Nederlanden

Industry: Insurance

Project: Customized Group Insurance Sales Platform

Technology Partner: Decerto

Overview

Nationale Nederlanden aimed to create a modern, customizable platform tailored to the specific needs of their group insurance sales process. Although the company had internal development resources, they recognized a gap in their knowledge of the latest trends in group insurance sales software. To fill this gap, Nationale Nederlanden partnered with Decerto, a specialist in insurance software solutions, to develop a highly configurable and user-friendly platform designed to streamline and modernize the group insurance sales process.

Key Challenges

  • Lack of Expertise in Group Insurance Processes: While Nationale Nederlanden had internal resources, they needed Decerto’s in-depth knowledge of group insurance trends and sales processes to create a system that would meet both current and future needs.
  • Complex System Requirements: The platform had to support user access management, flexible product configuration, and complex underwriting processes, while ensuring ease of use for sales teams.
  • High UX Expectations: The goal was to create a modern, intuitive user experience that would improve efficiency and be easy for salespeople to integrate into their daily workflow.
  • Seamless Integration: Nationale Nederlanden’s existing systems required smooth integration, ensuring that the platform could scale and adapt to evolving insurance market needs.

Solution Approach

Collaboration and Knowledge Transfer

The project’s success was based on close collaboration between Decerto and Nationale Nederlanden's internal development team. Decerto handled defining business requirements, creating the sales process, coding, UX design, and testing, while Nationale Nederlanden focused on system integration. The project was executed using the Scrum methodology, allowing for regular communication and iterative improvements.

This collaboration ensured not only the successful delivery of the platform but also an effective transfer of knowledge, enabling Nationale Nederlanden to maintain and further develop the system in the future.

Key Features of the Platform

  • Customizable User Access Management: The platform was designed to allow flexible control over user permissions and access to tools and data, ensuring compliance and data security.
  • Product and Underwriting Configuration: Decerto developed a system capable of handling complex product and underwriting configurations. This enabled Nationale Nederlanden to offer a wide range of group insurance products that could be easily modified to meet customer needs.
  • Modern and Efficient UX: One of the primary goals was to ensure the platform was easy for sales teams to use in their daily work. Decerto designed a streamlined user interface using modern UX principles, ensuring a smooth and intuitive experience.
  • Technology Stack: The platform was built using Java, React, and Higson (Decerto’s proprietary business rules engine), providing a robust, scalable, and responsive system.

Comprehensive Testing and Documentation

Decerto’s team included developers, analysts, testers, and an experienced insurance expert. This diverse skill set allowed them to thoroughly test the system at each stage of development, ensuring that all features functioned as intended. Comprehensive documentation was also provided to support the internal team in maintaining and enhancing the platform post-launch.

Execution and Results

After the system was developed, several improvements were made based on feedback from Nationale Nederlanden’s sales teams, ensuring the platform was optimized for daily use. Despite initial concerns about the system’s complexity, after a few refinements, it gained acceptance among sales teams.

The platform, now known as the Group Online Platform (GOP), enabled Nationale Nederlanden to phase out difficult-to-maintain legacy systems and replace offline calculators with a modern online system. The new system transformed the sales process, providing an efficient, user-friendly online tool that has since become the primary platform for group insurance sales at Nationale Nederlanden.

Conclusion

Through close collaboration, Decerto and Nationale Nederlanden successfully developed the most configurable group sales platform in Poland. This cutting-edge system provided Nationale Nederlanden with the flexibility, scalability, and modern functionality needed to transform their group insurance sales process.

This project demonstrated that Decerto is capable of delivering highly specialized insurance software solutions that not only meet current business needs but also pave the way for future growth and innovation in the insurance industry.
